The design of neighborhoods can often leave people feeling isolated and disconnected. Whether surrounded by towering buildings or in a sprawling suburb where things feel distant and hard to reach, designing cities without considering the human scale can impact just about every aspect of one’s health and happiness.
At Gehl, we believe that human-centered design is key to improving quality of life in cities. From birds-eye to eye-level, we create spaces that encourage walking, biking, and social interaction. By carving out spaces for communities, promoting shared resources, and designing streets for people — not just cars — we can start to reshape cities for better health, sustainability, and equality.
