Founded in 2014, kyu is a collective of strategically curated creative organizations that share a belief that creative collaboration yields new solutions to the world’s largest challenges. As the 11th member company, Gehl joins firms such as IDEO, a world-class design and innovation firm; Sid Lee, a multi-award-winning creative and marketing agency; SYPartners, the leading expert in transformational management consulting; Kepler, a market leader in digital media; BEworks, the leader in behavioural economics-based consulting, and Godfrey Dadich Partners, a pioneer in storytelling.
Gehl and kyu share a mindset and urgency for change. The time is ripe to commit to the collective approach that kyu represents and accelerate our impact globally.
Helle Søholt, CEO, Founding Partner
Gehl collaborated with kyu company member IDEO in 2019 for Ford Greenfield Labs to create the National Street Service — a vision for the future of the street, that celebrates, educates, and stewards streets.
In 2020, Gehl worked with client Curative and kyu member companies BEworks, SYPartners and IDEO to rapidly design, prototype and deploy COVID-19 testing kiosks where they were most needed. Since deployment, across more than 30 cities the kiosks increased testing capacity by over one million tests per month.
After five years of project collaboration with a number of kyu companies, Gehl has learnt first-hand the positive impact that kyu facilitated collaboration can create. As a platform and facilitator that enables project partnerships and collaboration, kyu unites its members around the philosophy of ‘sei-katsu-sha’ – a concept that describes the wholeness of a person, in everything we do and make. As a company founded in a ‘people-first’ approach, we share this perspective as a core principle in creating equitable, healthy and sustainable urban development.
“Gehl’s unique approach and skill in understanding human behaviour in public space positions them as a key new partner in the kyu Collective. Public space is the foundation that holds our societies together and we need to evolve our best ideas to catalyse systemic social and environmental change. Gehl will provide a distinctive perspective on an ever-growing set of global challenges, leveraging their own mastery and working collaboratively with kyu member companies to achieve the impact we seek. This is the future that we both dream of and fight for,” says Farah Ramzan Golant, kyu President.
