The Downtown DC Public Realm Plan has been awarded the 2024 Chapter Planning Award for Outstanding Plan by the APA (National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association).
We are honored to be selected among other incredible projects and excited to see this vision for a more vibrant, prosperous, and inclusive downtown take shape. This award recognizes the importance of bold public space planning to building coalitions and vitality in ever-adapting downtowns. This plan embodies a vision brought to life through cross-sector and multidisciplinary collaboration. It acknowledges that planners alone can’t realize this vision — multi-sector and multidisciplinary partnerships are essential.
We were thrilled to work with the leadership of the Office of Planning and the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Economic Development and Planning, who dedicated tireless hours meeting with civic leaders, incorporating their feedback, and championing this project.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success! We look forward to continued partnerships that can bring the five catalytic public space projects to life.
