More reliable transportation. Healthier streets.

Istanbul, Europe’s largest city, has set out on an ambitions new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan to implement state of the art traffic modelling, alongside improvements in walking, cycling, public transport, and healthy streets infrastructure. As a global best practice advisor, Gehl contributed to the development of large-scale pilot projects.
In this role, Gehl developed a series of case studies profiling advancements in traffic calming, healthy streets, and active transportation. These contributions have been used to engage internal and external parties around a vision of a more sustainable Istanbul.
As part of Gehl’s advisory and capacity building, the team welcomed the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to Copenhagen on a week-long study trip. During the visit, the IMM team met with professionals from the public, private, and NGO sectors working with sustainable mobility in the Danish Capital region.
