Solna Centrum is undergoing a transformation from a traditional shopping centre into a mixed-use urban centre supporting residents, workers, visitors, and businesses throughout the day and year. Building on a comprehensive Health Check and public life analysis, Gehl studied how people move, stay, and experience the area, mapping flows, identifying barriers, and uncovering untapped potential in streets, parks, and plazas. This evidence-based foundation informed a by strategic plan that reframes Solna Centrum as a “complete neighbourhood” a place where daily needs, cultural experiences, green spaces, and mobility are seamlessly connected within walking distance.
At the heart of the strategy is a network of high-quality public spaces and strong pedestrian and cycling connections that stitch the district into its wider urban and natural context—from Stockholm and surrounding neighbourhoods to Skytteholmsparken. New and redefined destinations—including welcoming entrance plazas, an urban retail street, a central neighbourhood park, and a culture-focused library square—create a clear spatial hierarchy and identity for the area. By concentrating active ground floors, mixed uses, and cultural functions around key nodes, the plan ensures “eyes on the street,” social vibrancy, and long-term resilience. The result is a future-proof framework that balances commercial vitality with everyday livability—shaping Solna Centrum into a thriving city centre for generations to come.
