We believe the best way to embody new knowledge is through shared experiences and seeing it for yourself. Our masterclasses bring participants out into the field to hear first hand from people who are writing policy, implementing projects, and working with communities to improve social, health, and wellbeing outcomes. Urban health masterclasses build on Gehl’s legacy of transferring knowledge, resources, and best practice to policy makers, practitioners or organizations. We use Copenhagen as our classroom to share insights from Gehl and local urban health professionals through interactive site visits, panel discussions, workshops, and shared experiences.

Tools for change

We have proudly hosted over 400 participants in our urban health masterclasses in Copenhagen. Our diverse attendees come together to learn, collaborate, and exchange knowledge. Through our unique approach, participants not only benefit from Nordic specific insights but also engage with a broader network of cities, sharing their experiences and innovations.

Our masterclasses are rooted in the Gehl methodology, empowering participants to observe, measure, and advance new ways of designing, managing, and evaluating public spaces. We aim to foster the innovation and collaboration needed to enhance the health and wellbeing impact of civic assets and drive meaningful urban transformations across cities worldwide.

Masterclass thematic focus areas vary from Active Mobility, Child-Friendly City Planning and Design, Public Life Data, Foodscapes, and Health-Promoting Urban Planning. Credit: Gehl
